There’s a stat that now speaks louder than the results themselves: New York City FC can’t win away from home.
The 2-0 loss to the New England Revolution on April 19 wasn’t just another stumble — it was confirmation that this team simply doesn’t show up when they leave the Bronx. And the problem runs deeper than many want to admit.

This is no longer a one-off

After nine matches, NYCFC has zero road wins. Not one. That stat alone tells the story of a team structurally incapable of handling away games with the right mindset.
This isn’t an exception anymore — it’s the norm. And it stings even more because there’s no clear attempt to fix it.

Against the Revs, it was the same old script: lots of possession (57.5%), no creativity, a disconnected attack, and a defense that crumbles under pressure. The team doesn’t respond, doesn’t fight, doesn’t show personality. They play like a side resigned to failure the moment they step outside their stadium.

The attack is broken. Period.

The front line is the first to blame. Mounsef Bakrar out wide? Doesn’t work. Alonso Martínez? Running in circles, chasing scraps.
This team creates little and finishes even less. But the real issue is deeper: there are no recognizable attacking patterns, no vertical play, no smart movement. In nine games, we’ve seen more lineup shuffles than coherent attacking ideas.

Jansen needs to wake up

Pascal Jansen inherited a team with real potential — and so far, he’s delivered confusion. Late substitutions, tactical improvisation, and a complete lack of a road game plan are all weighing this team down.
He was supposed to put his stamp on this squad. We haven’t seen it. And patience, in a club that wants to compete, won’t last forever.

Time’s running out

NYCFC sits at 11 points. Mid-table. But unless they flip the switch away from home, they’ll slip out of the playoff race before the season even hits its stride.
Next up? Another away game, this time against Toronto FC — another test this team has failed again and again.

So the question now is simple: does this team want to matter or not? Because right now, on the road, NYCFC is just showing up to fill out the fixture list. And MLS doesn’t wait for teams that settle for that.
