It may only be April, but New York City FC and the New England Revolution are already set for their second showdown of the 2025 MLS season. The first meeting, just over a month ago, was anything but forgettable.
On the 10th anniversary of NYCFC’s first-ever home MLS game, the Boys in Blue marked the occasion with a dramatic 2–1 comeback win at Yankee Stadium. After falling behind via an own goal, City roared back behind a Julián Fernández equalizer and a stunning overhead strike from Alonso Martínez to seal the victory.
Since that electric night in the Bronx, both clubs have been on evolving paths—and for New England, it’s been a notable upswing. Caleb Porter’s side has won two of its last three, including a gritty 1–0 road win over Atlanta United and a stoppage-time triumph over the New York Red Bulls. After a slow start to the campaign, the Revolution are finally showing signs of life, and they’ll be eager to exact revenge on home soil.
City, meanwhile, head into the clash after their own narrow win—a 1–0 result over the Philadelphia Union that snapped a three-game winless run and could serve as a turning point in Pascal Jansen’s tenure. That result lifted spirits and confidence, but Saturday’s test at Gillette Stadium will demand even more.
The Revolution have been bolstered by standout performances from goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič, whose heroics in Atlanta earned him a place in the MLS Team of the Matchday. His five-save display preserved a clean sheet and underlined the threat posed by a resurgent New England side.
In their last meeting, NYCFC edged the Revs in shots (11 to 6) but conceded slightly more possession (52.6%). Expect Jansen’s squad to push for more control this time around, especially given the narrow margins that often separate success and frustration in games like this.
Despite their recent momentum, both teams remain hungry—New England for redemption and consistency, New York for their first road win of the year. With confidence building on both sides, Saturday’s clash is shaping up to be another tense, high-stakes chapter in this growing rivalry.
