With Jovan Mijatović now in Belgium, NYCFC’s attacking options are limited to Alonso Martínez and Mounsef Bakrar as the primary forwards.

A Reliable Goalscorer & an Unproven Talent

Martínez was NYCFC’s top scorer in 2024 with 18 goals, making him the clear focal point of the attack. His ability to find the net consistently is a positive, but the burden of carrying the frontline alone could become an issue.

Bakrar, on the other hand, has shown glimpses of potential but has yet to fully establish himself at this level. If he fails to take a step forward, NYCFC could struggle for attacking options.

A Thin Squad for a Long Season

The lack of depth in the attacking department is a real concern. Injuries, suspensions, and fixture congestion will inevitably test the squad over the course of a long season. Right now, NYCFC looks dangerously thin in attack, especially if Martínez or Bakrar misses time.

Will NYCFC Reinforce or Take a Risk?

The decision to loan out Mijatović without securing a direct replacement raises questions. Does the club have a plan to bring in reinforcements, or is this a gamble on their current squad depth? If NYCFC intends to compete at a high level, adding another forward may be necessary to avoid attacking struggles later in the season.
